Ranked at 193rd on the most popular board games website, the reason for Catan’s success is simple.
It’s like weed.
Catan is the gateway drug for so many people; it’s the way that people first make the leap from the shitty staples like Monopoly and Cluedo to the real games.
For many, it marks the moment that people first realised that board games can actually be pretty fun. It opens the door to a whole new world of games, and is a hallmark of any gamer’s collection.
