Once terribly described as a ‘cheese-shifting simulator’ on the Best Play podcast, Sheriff of Nottingham is a staple of any board gamer’s collection. It revolves around a handful of merchants, each trying to ferry as many goods as possible into their market stall – the twist being that they can either be cheap legitimate ones or expensive contraband. The Sheriff has to decide whether to call their bluff. It’s an satisfyingly uncomplicated game and comes warmly recommended by the Best Play team.
